Creado por el legendario diseñador italiano Massimo Vignelli en 1966, el Stendig sigue siendo uno de los mejores ejemplos del diseño modernista de la década de 1960, con dos de las creaciones más icónicas del movimiento: el tipo de letra suizo Helvetica y Grid. Poco después de su lanzamiento, el calendario entró en la colección permanente del MoMA de Nueva York, donde permanece hasta el día de hoy.
El diseño de Vignelli es simple pero atrevido, impreso en litografía en hojas grandes de 122x92 cm unidas por tres ojales perforados a mano. Las páginas alternan el color, con meses impares presentados con texto negro sobre blanco, y con texto blanco sobre negro. Las hojas se quitan, diseñadas para retirarse al final de cada mes. Las hojas de meses anteriores son un excelente papel de regalo.

Upcycle old sheets
Once the month is over, sheets can be detached from the calendar along a perforated seam that runs along the top. Previous months’ sheets make excellent wrapping paper — we recommend rolling them up and saving them for Christmas.
Space and scale
At the heart of the Stendig is a remarkable interplay between space and scale. At 122x92cm, it exceeds the typical size of a calendar, and is a feature of any room. Set within this are large Helvetica numerals that enumerate the days of the month.
The two digit dates are tightly and precisely kerned, such that the two characters just touch. The negative space left in and around these kissing numerals was of as much interest to Vignelli as the numbers themselves: the shape of the number 23, in particular, he considered graphic perfection.
